JV Defeats Sherwood 6-4
On a cloudless, blue sky day at Sherwood High School, the BCC girls’ junior varsity defeated Sherwood by a score of 6-4. BCC jumped to the lead at 17:14 of the first half on a stellar unassisted goal by Jackie Landon.  Before the cheering BCC fans even had a chance to catch their collective breath, Nicole Parina made it 2-0 on a darting breakaway goal.

But the Sherwood squad remained undaunted. Taylor Pohemis scored first at 12:26 and, despite BCC’s swarming defense, Rachel Riley tied the game with an unassisted goal with ten minutes remaining in the half.
Lily Herrick-Reynolds, who dominated the face-off draws all day, fired a goal at the 8:20 mark to give BCC the 3-2 lead. Minutes later Jackie Landon notched her second goal of the day, as BCC’s offense swarmed the beleaguered yet valiant Sherwood goaltender. With less than a minute remaining in the first half, Landon struck again, thus completing a hat trick for the Lady Barons.

After the halftime festivities concluded, Sherwood came out ready to rumble. At 14:03 Quinn Petnoti scored for Sherwood and less than two minutes later Natalie Cabezas’ goal brought the score to 5-4. But BCC held its ground: with tenacious defense and Olivia Robinson’s steady goaltending it withstood Sherwood’s battering assault through the duration of the second half. After a furious attack in the Sherwood zone, Herrick-Reynolds delivered her second goal with under two minutes left to make it 6-4, BCC.

As the shadows slowly crept across the field and the sun faded on the horizon, BCC diligently follows the exhortations of Coach Durkin to “take care of the ball” until time expired. Great job BCC!
